چکیده

In the over-all reaction, one molecule of diacetyl is oxidized to two molecules of acetate, and another molecule of diacetyl is reduced to acetoin. The reaction was shown to require cocarboxylase (DPT).2 Subsequently, Schweet et al. (1951) expanded this finding and pointed out the similarity between the diacetyl reaction and pyruvic acid oxidation, with respect to the metabolism of the "active aldehyde" derived from the dicarbonyl split. Juni and Heym (1953), working with Aerobacter aerogenes, isolated two new compounds following diacetyl metabolism. One of them, diacetylmethylcarbinol, was formed by splitting diacetyl to form "active aldehyde", followed by a benzoin type of condensation of this aldehyde with another molecule of diacetyl. The other, acetylbutanediol, is a reduction product of diacetylmethylcarbinol. In the A. aerogenes system, the active aldehyde derived from diacetyl is not oxidized, but the condensation product, diacetylmethylcarbinol, undergoes further oxidation to acetate and diacetyl. Role of pyruvate metabolism in the growth of Streptococcus faecalis in the presence of propionate.

The growth of Streptococcus faecalis is inhibited by propionate, and the inhibition is reversed by lipoic acid or acetate. A study of the role of pyruvate oxidation in S. faecalis showed that propionate inhibited the lipoic acid-dependent aerobic oxidation of pyruvate in resting cells. Pyruvate dehydrogenation with neotetrazolium as a hydrogen acceptor in cell-free extracts also required lipoic...

Acetoin Fermentation by Citrate-Positive Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis 3022 Grown Aerobically in the Presence of Hemin or Cu.

CitrLactococcus lactis subsp. lactis 3022 produced more biomass and converted most of the glucose substrate to diacetyl and acetoin when grown aerobically with hemin and Cu. The activity of diacetyl synthase was greatly stimulated by the addition of hemin or Cu, and the activity of NAD-dependent diacetyl reductase was very high. Hemin did not affect the activities of NADH oxidase and lactate de...

Incorporation of radioactive acetate into diacetyl by Streptococcus diacetilactis.

Streptococcus diacetilactis was grown in a partially defined, lipoic acid-free medium containing radioactive acetate with and without addition of 0.1% unlabeled sodium pyruvate. Labeled carbon was incorporated into diacetyl, but neither the amount of diacetyl produced nor its specific activity was influenced by addition of pyruvate. Acetoin had low specific activity, indicating that it was a mi...

Voltammetric Determination of α-Lipoic Acid using Poly(Vanillin) Modified Platinum Electrode

In the present study electrochemical detection of α-lipoic acid (α-LA) was carried out with a poly(Vanillin) modified platinum electrode p(VA)/PtE in Brinton Robinson buffer (BR) solution. The platinum electrode surface’s was modified with cyclic voltammetry method. The prepared Pt electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry in ferrocyanide and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. T...
